چکیده

A robust method is introduced for computing the camera motion the ego motion in a static scene The method is based on detecting a single image region and com puting its D motion in the image plane directly from image intensities The detected D motion of this image region is used to register the images so that the detected image region appears stationary The resulting residual displacement eld for the entire scene in such registered frames is a ected only by the D translation of the camera Canceling the e ects of the D rotation of the camera by using such D image registration simpli es the computation of the translation The D translation of the camera is computed by nding the focus of expansion in the translation only set of registered frames This step is followed by computing the D rotation to complete the computation of the ego motion The presented method avoids many of the inherent problems in the computation of optical ow and of feature matching and does not assume prior feature detection or feature correspondence This research has been sponsored by ARPA through the U S O ce of Naval Research under Grant N R T Project Code and by the Israeli Ministry of Science and Technology M Irani is now with David Sarno Research Center Princeton NJ U S A

Recovery of ego-motion using image stabilization

A method for computing the 3D camera motion (the ego-motion) in a static scene is introduced, which is based on computing the 2D image motion of a single image region directly from image intensities. The computed image motion of this image region is used to register the images so that the detected image region appears stationary. The resulting displacement eld for the entire scene between the r...

Recovery of Ego-Motion Using Region Alignment

A method for computing the 3D camera motion (the egomotion) in a static scene is described, where initially a detected 2D motion between two frames is used to align corresponding image regions. We prove that such a 2D registration removes all effects of camera rotation, even for those image regions that remain misaligned. The resulting residual parallax displacement field between the two region...

Synchronized Ego-Motion Recovery of Two Face-to-Face Cameras

A movie captured by a wearable camera affixed to an actor’s body gives audiences the sense of “immerse in the movie”. The raw movie captured by wearable camera needs stabilization with jitters due to ego-motion. However, conventional approaches often fail in accurate ego-motion estimation when there are moving objects in the image and no sufficient feature pairs provided by background region. T...

Fusing Time-of-Flight Cameras and Inertial Measurement Units for Ego-Motion Estimation

This paper presents an approach for ego-motion estimation based on a Time-of-Flight (ToF) camera. It is applied in real-time on a mobile robot platform during mission. The proposed method utilizes the coherence of depth and reflectance data of ToF cameras by detecting image features on reflectance data and estimating the motion on related depth data. This motion estimate is fused with data from...

Motion processing for saccadic eye movements during the visually induced sensation of ego-motion in humans

During ego-motion an observer is often faced with the task of controlling his heading direction while simultaneously registering the movement of objects in order to avoid possible obstacles. Psychophysical experiments have shown that the detection of moving objects is impaired by concurrent ego-motion. We investigated the interaction between ego-motion and object-motion by examining the latenci...
